Temporomandibular joint disorder is a common condition with many names. It can be called TMJ, TMJ syndrome, TMJ dysfunction, or temporomandibular disorder (TMD).

Temporomandibular joint disorder (we'll use the term TMJ) is a problem in the jaw and surrounding areas of the head and neck that causes pain, discomfort, and disability in millions of people each year. Experts believe that approximately 20 percent of the population will, at some time, suffer from some form of TMJ disorder, and about 5 percent are currently in pain and looking for help.
